Young Drivers

Most young drivers are quite eager to get their license.
They must be at least 16 years of age and will have to
pass a vision test and a written test of the rules of
the road. At this point they would receive their G1
license. They would not be added to the policy yet,
however they must have a fully G licensed driver in the
front seat with them at all times. There are also a few
other restrictions they must adhere to. Once they’ve
completed the requirements for G1 level, they can do a
road test to move up to a G2 level. Be sure to call us
as they now must be added to the policy, and there may
be a change to have them listed as “occasional
operators”. They can also drive by themselves at this
point, however there are still some driving
restrictions. Check out the Ministry of Transportation
website for more info or call our office. Once they have
completed 1 full year at the G2 level, they can do
another road test and get their full G license.
Remember, they have only 5 years to complete the whole
process, or they start back at the beginning. Call our
office to discuss how driver training courses can reduce
your child’s premium and how they can stay out of the
high risk market.
